Nest Homewares

I am sometimes asked where I purchased Robert's cot sheets. They are from Nest Homewares however I haven't been able to point people to the direction of where to purchase them from. I suppose my googling skills aren't very good or perhaps the website is relatively new?

It was nice to see there is an online store as well. While I still can't seem to find the Albi elephant cot sheets, this is a step closer. There are single bed duvets listed in the store in the same red characters. Now if only they will release king single Albi sheets then I know what Robert will be sleeping in.

PS. I took apart Robert's cot last night and he spent his first night in his new bed. Before I know he'll be in high school...

Bed

A new bed has moved into Robert's room. I'm not used to seeing the room so.. full.

The cot is still in here because I still have a bit to do, including purchasing new sheets and making a headboard. I don't think he is ready to move into it just yet though. It is so big and he is so small and I'm worried about accidental falls. This is progress though..

Tepee

I really did have a weekend full of nothing at all and it was wonderful. How was yours?

Robert was given a tepee as a birthday gift and I finally got around to setting it up in his room for him. We spent most of the weekend hiding away in here. I scattered a few cushions and laid down a blanket and we played games, had lunch, rang the bell a millions times and even had a little nap in the tepee.

The tent is much bigger than I thought it would be and it took me a few tries setting it up and rearranging the room to get it to fit but in the end it did... just. If you are interested in a tepee, this one is from here and comes in other colours too.

Another little update to his room is moving the circus party print I made for his 1st birthday party onto his dresser and I also attached the ribbon around the lampshades with just a dab of glue so that I can remove it in the future without ruining the shades.

Ideas for Robert's toddler room

There are still many months to go before Robert moves into a 'big boy' bed. I can't even imagine the day. He still looks so teeny tiny in his cot.

I have been thinking about the little changes we will make to his room. A new bed of course, new prints on the wall and his newly painted lamps. The dresser, rug, toy box and wallpaper will remain. I'm unsure if the settee will be able to stay in his room because I would like to find space to set up his tepee. Can you imagine it? A tepee with floor cushions and his own little spot to run and hide into. I'll never be able to tell him to go to his room if he is in trouble. He'll love it there!

For his bed I am leaning towards an ensemble and fabric bedhead. I know they can be a drama to keep clean with little kids but it might hold up if I scotch guard it. Maybe.

Colour wise I will be adding a bit more soft blue to his already white and red room. I am rather liking this image from Domino (rest its soul) but I probably won't add any black accents, at least not until he is a bit older if he likes it. The colours will be reversed so, red circus wallpaper on the wall and soft blue bedhead.

I plan on making his bedhead myself but one evening a week or so ago I was searching eBay and came across this which I won. It is not quite what I had in mind (I was thinking a plain square headboard in blue or blue & white stripes) but it is so lovely I couldn't resist getting it anyway. The colour is beautiful and it is well made (and a bargain at $20!) but the curves... curves are feminine aren't they?

It has been sitting in storage since we picked it up so today I toyed around with it and created a physical mood board of sorts.

I added his red and white striped pillow and his newly painted lamp. His bed linen will be white and I'm thinking a neutral coloured blanket will look nice with it too.

I then added his wallpaper. I had a sample roll handy.

And lastly, I found some red ribbon left over from Christmas and tied it temporarily around the lamp shades. I probably won't secure it because I don't want to glue the shades but I thought it was a cute look. It is a shame not to use this bedhead because of the shape but the original idea might be the better way to go for a boy. Straight lines and no curves. What do you think?

So colours are red, white and more of the soft blue colour. We'll then add to this monster trucks, baseball bats, football jerseys or whatever his little heart desires.

Fashion Friday: Summer dress

One of the best things about summer is that you can slip on a colourful dress and flats and your set. Easy. I bought this one to wear to an event a while ago. I was pregnant with Robert at the time and it fit my belly with room to move. I wore it everywhere afterwards and it is seeing the sun again this summer.

See that lamp in the background? That's the lamp I bought for Robert that I mentioned.

I had been looking for a blue lamp for his room but I couldn't find any that I liked so I bought an old lamp base and painted it sky blue. There is a matching lamp to this one but I didn't want to overwhelm his room with lighting so the other one is sitting unpainted in the study.

That's all from me for this week! If you are looking for a weekend read, may I recommend these?
  • Belinda recently shared her 'secrets to creating a happy home' in Home Beautiful and you can read her full set of tips on her blog
  • Jason Grant, Real Living stylist and the person who did the amazing job on my home for the Real Living shoot, has recently started a blog! He will be sharing what goes on behind the scenes and other fun stuff. I have been busy jotting down all of his shopping recommendations. His blog was a 'must read blog' linked at the top of this page but just in case you missed it I really do recommend you check it out here.
  • And finally, I really want to try this project. It looks so simple and effective.
Have a beautiful weekend!

Update: Fifi Lapin wore this dress too. Does this make me a fashionable bunny as well? ;) See it here.

New nursery photos

I took new photos of the nursery today. The room looks a little different to the way it looked before Robert was born. It was waiting for Robert to add his personality to it and now he has and it feels more alive, more him.

The room is not a big one but it is big enough for Robert to play in.

Robert's toy car is parked at the very entrance to his room. Whenever Robert spots the zebra sitting on the car he knocks him off. It didn't last long after I took this photo.

I think the antler lamp might be a little harsh for a kids room because of the spikes but it is all we have for now.

Some of Robert's books and toys. I framed the badges myself and you can find a really simple tutorial here.

The cushion at the front is by Hettle and the striped cushion is from Adairs. They usually end up on the floor too.

Robert received the blackboard wall decal as a gift and we've traced our hands (rather badly) onto it.

I don't usually leave Robert's clothes hanging on the front of his wardrobe but I always see dresses displayed this way in girl's nursery rooms so I'm just adding a photo for the boys too.

By the end of the year we will start to think about purchasing a toddler bed and making other adjustments as he grows out of the room as it is now. I think I will miss the way it looks in these photos to be honest.

Have a beautiful weekend!

French caricatures

I just couldn't resist these french caricatures and their adorable harlequin outfits which I found and won on eBay. The series of four are meant to be displayed together and each have the following text on them: La Rencontre, Laveu, Confidences, Ju'elle est belle. Are there any french speakers that can translate this for me?

I think they would look cute in Robert's room but there is not much wall space left aside from this wall and I rather like the look of the wallpaper with no art hanging on top of it. Off to storage I think until more walls magically appear.

ETA: Thanks @chinchincheroo for tweeting that they translate to "the meeting, confession, trust/share secrets, how she's pretty!"

New additions to the nursery

The circus print I posted about last week now lives on the nursery wall. I like the way it looks next to the wallpaper. I didn't mean for the colours to match so closely but I like that it does.

And I've finally hung this growth chart which was given to my son as a gift. It's from Kikki-K. Cute. I'm tempted to mark the actual door with his age at each height and not the chart.

Sometimes it's the little things that make me happy...

Like this little train I bought for my son's room made with his name.

I also discovered that you can still buy Little Golden Books. They've been around now for 65 years! Some of the stories I remember from when I was a child. So I bought a whole stack of them to read to Robbie.

I'm sure I've still got some of my old books somewhere. I've probably scribbled all over the pages though. I seem to recall drawing a moustache on Cinderella once.

Nursery is done!

And in time for the party too. I'm so happy with the way the chair turned out. I'll post some progress shots separately with the paint products used. It was so simple to do!

I decided on the Nest Nursery sheet set. I couldn't resist the elephants.

That's a Cariboo bassinet in the corner. It will probably end up in the master bedroom so we don't have to walk too far to tend to the screaming baby.

The change table above the chest of drawers is removable so we can reuse the drawers when the baby grows up.

The Etsy prints are finally framed and hanging.

Overall I'm pretty proud of the way the room turned out. The best feeling is watching kids play in the room and give it the 'thumbs up'. I can't wait for the little one to arrive.

Nursery progress = slow

Only 7 weeks left to go and a stack of things to do. For now though, I'm going to put my feet up post about all the things I have managed to cross off my nursery 'to do' list. That'll make me feel better...

1. Baby has a place to sleep - just as soon as I buy a mattress and sheets that is:

The cot was a bargain at under $400 (Australian dollars) from ebay. Sure beats paying over $1K for similar designs. Win!

2. A chest of drawers to store all the lovely baby clothes friends and family have bought for us.

3. Installed this pendant light. Love the way it sparkles when the light is on.

Still waiting on the rug to arrive and to decide whether to paint, wallpaper.. hmm...

The room is very light - all whites and creams - which isn't bad I suppose but I do feel it needs a burst of colour.

4. Maybe these etsy prints I bought a week or so ago will help.

The seller's name is ickleson. Beautiful print and wonderful seller to deal with!

This print below should arrive in the mail any day now. It's called Three Little Bears Revisited by sarahjanestudios.

And that's where the room is at for now. Baby steps..
