New nursery photos

I took new photos of the nursery today. The room looks a little different to the way it looked before Robert was born. It was waiting for Robert to add his personality to it and now he has and it feels more alive, more him.

The room is not a big one but it is big enough for Robert to play in.

Robert's toy car is parked at the very entrance to his room. Whenever Robert spots the zebra sitting on the car he knocks him off. It didn't last long after I took this photo.

I think the antler lamp might be a little harsh for a kids room because of the spikes but it is all we have for now.

Some of Robert's books and toys. I framed the badges myself and you can find a really simple tutorial here.

The cushion at the front is by Hettle and the striped cushion is from Adairs. They usually end up on the floor too.

Robert received the blackboard wall decal as a gift and we've traced our hands (rather badly) onto it.

I don't usually leave Robert's clothes hanging on the front of his wardrobe but I always see dresses displayed this way in girl's nursery rooms so I'm just adding a photo for the boys too.

By the end of the year we will start to think about purchasing a toddler bed and making other adjustments as he grows out of the room as it is now. I think I will miss the way it looks in these photos to be honest.

Have a beautiful weekend!

  1. viv...why are we still up? lol
I love Roberts room...very alive, colourful and fun...Jacq's room is the same...lots of colour and cheeky monkeys about....its so fun to do up their room ..especially when it starts to really reflect their personality.
Aren't they growing up so fast? it still blows me away...today Jacq was doing the actions to "I'm a little tea pot" and it just made my heart flip flop..just adorable.
P.S love the set of wheels Robbie has...too cute!

  2. Oh Anna I don't know. I really should get some sleep. Thank you for your lovely comment on Robert's room.

They do grow up very fast and it is amazing all of the little things they pick up. I think I have to start being careful what I say around him now.. haha.

  3. You did a good job! I love love love the sofa. It's very.. royal-ish to me because of the red-ness. Plus, the wall look fantastic. Those hands on the chalkboard are so sweet. But don't you think, he might accidentally touch it and smell it.. you know.. allergies.

Anyways, congratulations for a job well done!

  7. What an incredible room!! One lucky little man and one extremely talented Mum. It's wonderful :) I adore that Catherine Martin wallpaper! Have a lovely weekend :)

  8. cutlex - he doesn't touch it because it is behind his large toy box. If it is ever a problem I can always move it up higher on the wall. I've already moved the decal a few times and it is still sticky.

Thetis - the rug is the Egeby rug from Ikea. I've got it in the study and studio too. It holds up really well.

  9. What an awesome room your little man has. I'm glad Thetis asked about the rug cos we've been in search of one too and I've had my eye on that very same one in Ikea. Is it too "scratchy" for him to play on? I hang out for your blog updates now - thanks for being so inspiring.:)

  10. So nice of you to say Cat, thank you. When he was beginning to crawl he would drag his knees on the rug and it was too scratchy for him so we would either lay down a playmat for him or he would play in the livng area where we have the soft rug. We moved the coffee table against the wall to give him more room. Now that he is walking more it is fine for him.

  12. What a great room - it is so crisp and welcoming. i love the book holders that i can see on the dresser - i think they are an 'X' shape. I was just wondering where you got them from? Keep the inspiration coming :)

  13. You are very welcome, thank you for your beautiful comments.

Kate - The X's were from Ikea. I bought them about 3 years ago and painted them red. I wonder if they still have them?

  14. Oh and if you are looking for bookends, have a look at these ones from Cocoon Couture:

    Bookends

I know they aren't X's but they are so cute for kids rooms. The Cheeky Squirrels one has Robert's name written all over it.

  18. What a breath taking room! I'm a big believer in decorating over time and how wonderful you designed his room as got to know your baby better and he showed you his personality! Very sweet! I'm sure his room as a toddler will look just as lovely!

  19. Hi Viv,I love your blog and love the nursery! I just wondering about the cocoon couture beanbag, does Robert enjoy sitting in it? as I've had my eye on one for my 13 month old daughter and I wasnt sure if she would be comfy in it or actually sit in it.

  20. Hi Viv, I ADORE that frame with the badges in it you made. FAB. Hope you had a great New Year and look forward to reading your blog in 2010.

  21. Hi Viv! I have been reading your blog for few months now and I LOVE YOUR BLOG. You give me so much inspirations to improve our home cause at the moment it is so plain.
It is one of my wish that starting this year I will make an effort to make it our home beautiful just like yours.

Thanks for taking the time for sharing your home to us.

  22. Oh wow you guys, how nice are you. Thank you.

Lauren - I love it too. It was a gift from his aunty.

Marta - I think I've stuffed it with too many beans and it is a little too full for Robbie to sit on it comfortably. I usually sit on it with him on my lap to read him a book or something. I should probably take some beans out.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Viv - the beans should squash down over time. You're so right that it looks great with Robbie's 'stamp' on it compared to before he was born, it was just waiting for the right little person!

I am still massively coveting that light from Freedom but alas I have called every store within cooee as you suggested but to no avail, no longer stocked. I will admire from afar...

    P.S. Hot wheels Robbie ;)

  24. Hi, I just jumped over here from one of your Flickr photos and I'm so glad I did. What a treat to see your son's beautiful nursery. All the little details are so thoughtful and quietly beautiful. Everything is great, but I've got to say that I just adore that settee with the red/white wallpaper. Absolute perfection! Definitely inspiration to go work on my son's room again!

  25. Emma - I'm sorry you can't find the light. It was bought a while ago. If I ever come across something similar I'll let you know.

Minnie - Welcome! And thank you :)

  26. This is such a beautiful room!

Can I ask you where you purchased this white dresser?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks Emily! I bought the dresser from Snooze before my son was born.

  28. Just gorgeous-I love everything more now that it has Robbies stamp on it. Just wondering if you know the name of the seller you bought the cot from? Have a great 2010, I can't wait to keep reading your blog.
    Thanks, Bettina

  29. Bettina - I'm afraid I can't find the seller on ebay any longer. There are lots of other white sleigh cots on ebay though.

  30. No worries-thanks for checking. Bettina

  31. Hello! lovely room - quick Q though - there are no curtains? or blockouts? doesn't he wake up early? thanks )

  32. Can you tell me where you got the wallpaper from?
    I absolutely love it!!

  33. Anon - the windows have privacy glass which filters the light a little and the sun doesn't reach there until the afternoon so his room is the darkest in the morning. We do plan to get roman blinds in his room though as part of the toddler room changes. Don't tell anyone but sometimes we would hang up a table cloth over the window to hide any light ;)

Katie - Thank you, it's from Porters Paints designed by Catherine Martin: www.porterspaints.com.au

  34. I love this room. Can I ask where the wallpaper is from?

We're getting ready to turn our son's nursery into a big boy room, and I love that wallpaper :)

  36. When my son started walking, we needed to turn the old nursery to a more functional room for a toddler. Since my little boy is just practicing his walking skills, my husband decided to place rubber matting (just for his room) on the Sarasota flooring to protect him whenever he falls. Our problem is that dirt accumulates underneath the matting. Moreover, I once caught my son biting on the rubber mats. When I saw your blog, I notice how comfortable your son is walking on the rug. I think that the rug would be a great replacement for the rubber mats. It is easy to clean and can serve as a soft cushion for falls, too. Thanks for the great room idea.

  37. Hi Viv!

I hope you are well! Just one really quick question... is the rug in Robbie's room from Ikea by any chance?

    Thanks,

    S x

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi S, yes it is! It is the Egeby rug.

Kathy - if you are worred about protection from falls this rug might not be the best for that. It can be a bit scratchy I've found. My son and I don't mind walking on it though and his nappy keeps his bottom protected anyway from falls.

  39. Fabulous! Thanks Viv... have a great w/e! x

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi Viv! Thanks for your suggestion, I'll keep that in mind because I haven't bought the rug yet. We have removed the rubber matting though. Besides, my son's walking skills is improving. Regards to you and your son.

  41. Love the red bean bag! Where did you find that?

    ReplyDelete
  42. This room is so lovely. I am looking for a simple red bedding for my baby's crib and love your elephant. Did you have that made or did you purchase from somewhere?
    Thanks!

  43. What a beautiful room. I am sure you must be sick of answering 'where did you get?....' questions, but please if you could do one more - I would love to know where you found the chest of drawers. I love that they are a little wider than others I have seen.
    Thanks

  44. Hi Viv, I know I'm a little late on commenting on this post but I was looking through your 'nursery' pics again as I'm currently pregnant and looking for nursery inspiration! I was wondering if you could please tell me where you got that cane basket from (that holds Robert's toys)? I'm looking for one just like it. Thanks! x
