Douglas and Bec

Douglas and Bec is a New Zealand based store I came across while searching for furniture for a project. Stocking items from local and international designers, the store has an online website filled to the brim with gorgeous product. Above are a few of my favourites combining thin brass lines, copper and beautiful wood. Although the store is based in NZ they ship to Australia and the shipping price is not unreasonable given the weight of some of the furniture pieces.

Playing

I'm working on a residential project at the moment helping a beautiful family get settled into their newly renovated home with lovely furnishings. We are still in the initial steps but I love this phase. It allows us to play with the balance of colours, patterns and textures while the overall picture of the final space starts to form. I'm drawn to white stone, gold leaf and navy at the moment but with some added bright colour - always colour.

Tour of Cadrys Traditional and Contemporary Showrooms

Cadrys Traditional Showroom - On the wall: Antique Persian Tabriz (circa 1930). On the floor: Antique Khotan (circa 1930). Rug on the loom is a Hashan design.

I have been meaning to visit Cadrys for a while now and was reminded of their beautiful collection when I spotted one of their rugs at The Aparttment opening. David, Robbie and I headed into Edgecliff to meet with Jared Cadry and to see their stunning collection for ourselves. We were given the most in-depth and informative tour of both the Cadrys classic collection and their new collection at the Contemporary Cadrys showroom. Let me tell you, this family-owned business sure knows their stuff. Their passion is clear and somewhat addictive!

CLOUD lighting installation

CLOUD sculpture installation at Nuit Blanche Gallery

Taking time off from various projects, including ish and chi, has been nice but I have missed writing. I needed to recharge before the new college semester resumes because these next few months will be my last and the most stressful! So I have been conserving my energy and now I have a heap of it to unleash onto you, you have been warned! Let's get back into it...

CLOUD CEILING installation at Progress Bar

Maybe you have seen the CLOUD project? It is the creative idea of artists Wayne Garret & Caitlind r.c. Brown who suspended 5000 burnt-out incandescent light bulbs in the shape of a cloud and illuminated the bulbs at the pull of a string with spectacular results! The team behind this temporary installation have now created a permanent cloud installation called the CLOUD CEILING at the Progress Bar in Chicago.
