Andrew recently met with me to give me a personal tour of his Sydney exhibition and I was able to photograph his work insitu at Corporate Culture. It was lovely seeing his work exhibited amongst beautiful furniture as opposed to a traditional gallery exhibition. Andrew explained the inspiration for this collection of paintings is the Melbourne landscape and through his art he has obscured the forms to create an almost abstract view of the landscape with colour featuring strongly.

Paint is layered onto his canvas to create depth and texture. Andrew explained that he mixes up his own pigments and has found the more he crushes up the pigments, the more intense the colour becomes. And his paintings are beautifully vibrant! I commented that they appear to glow and you almost don't need any light in a room because the paintings seem to shine from within.
Andrew doesn't use typography in his work as he feels we are surrounded in our everyday lives with words and signs and he wishes for the owners of his paintings to be able to come home, away from all that, and to feel at peace. The large scale of his paintings almost make you feel as though you could step them and into another world.
Thank you kindly to Andrew and Corporate Culture for the tour and visit. The exhibition will run until 20 December, if you are in town and would like to visit I recommend it! Address: Corporate Culture, 21-23 Level Street, Chippendale NSW 2008.

First of all I want to say excellent blog! I had a quick question
ReplyDeletethat I'd like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing. I've had trouble clearing
my mind in getting my ideas out there. I do enjoy writing however it just
seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost simply just trying to figure
out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints? Thanks!
