The bookcase

Every so often (rarely) I get a burst of energy to tidy up the bookcase. This weekend was one of those moments. The aim was to make it kid friendly so we bolted the bookcase to the wall and devoted some space for Robert's toys.

While I was in the mood, I also covered the back of the bookcase with wrapping paper. I realised afterwards that I should have covered wood or board with paper first and then attached it to the back of the bookcase to give it a hard backing because the bookcase doesn't sit flush to the wall. I might do that this week so that holes aren't poked through the paper

How was your weekend? What did you get up to?

  1. Looks fab vivienne...I too did the same thing with our bookcase...just rearranged a few things and sorted out all my home mags etc..looks alot more organised.
So good to see that you got to framing those gorgeous prints you purchased ( ontop of bookcase) they look excellent!! Good to see that Im not the only one that has a fetish for cushions..although I never thought of displaying them like that...another great idea :) Top job! x

  2. Oh so neat and tidy...and as pretty as a picture. I remember having those darling little toys around.... a fair while back now. Oh the little Peter Rabbit brings back memories. My little one still has a Peter Rabbit attached to a comfort square.. that he has always called "Bun-Bun". He says he will keep him forever. Our weekend was much dirtier than yours, laying turf and potting plants. Oh it was hot! A-M xx

  3. That looks amazing - the wallpaper especially looks brilliant! I spent my weekend reclaiming my territory around the house after MIL was here for a week and rearranged everything "to help". Grrr.

  4. Wow, your bookshelf looks fantastic! I love the Ikea bookcases - I have 2 home myself and find them easy to fill with various things. The wallpaper backing is such a great idea :)

  6. Your bookshelf looks so neat and well organised! I really like how you used the paper behind the cubes. I was looking at our bookshelf the other day and thinking that my decorating magazines on the lower shelf will soon have to make way for picture books.

  7. It looks great, gives me inspiration to tidy up the two expedits I have in each child's room. The problem is mine stay this way only for a little while.

  8. Backing it with something hard is a great idea. I cleaned up Lacey's bookshelf like this on the weekend too. It looks cute now.

I did the one in our dining room a few weeks ago.

They do require a fair bit of maintenance. x

  9. Your bookcase looks great! I'd like to have a bookcase like that, but at the moment we have a puppy that eats everything so it's not a good idea buying new furniture :)

  11. Looks great! I love to decorate, and I was surprised at how much having a baby (He is 18 months now) affects my decorating decisions now. Lots of things have had to be moved or bolted down since we started having kids!

  12. i love the bookcase Viv - and perfect timing I have been working out how to finish off a bookcase we just had installed. YOu have inspired me. I love the red boxes you have. Just wondering if you remember where you sourced them from?

  13. Thanks Anna! I don't have a spot for them on a wall so I thought I would just lean them up there for now.

A-M - I'm sure your garden is looking amazing though. Your whole home is coming along so nicely.

belinda - Deep down I hate this bookcase. I hate dusting it and sorting it and I hate seeing our 'stuff'. Some days I want to throw it out the window.

Amanda - Robert attacked those first. The pages are too easy to rip and he loved the sound they made when they did. I had to bury (recycle) a few magazines that were too far gone unfortunately.

Cyma - mine never lasts long either.

Adri - oh yes, everything is bolted down or moved out of the way or the edges are padded. I never realised how many 'dangers' there were in the home before my son was born.

Kate - I think from memory they were picked up from Ikea. It was many years ago now.

Thanks everyone for being so kind xx
