Vintage style bicycles

I still have bicycles on my mind and I have been saving my pennies. In my internet travels I came across Papillionaire, a Melbourne based company that builds customised bicycles and I was pretty much sold by their robin egg blue bike with cream tyres and front basket.

You can pick the bicycle colour you like, the model, the tyres, grip and saddle types and accessories and have it delivered worldwide. Is there anything you can't buy online these days?

A vintage style bicycle and cute outfit. That's how I would like to be getting about.

  1. The blue one is my favourite too, with the red a close second. Now if someone could design an equally cool vintage style helmet we would be set!

  3. The last pic is very cool! I saw a few of these when I used to live on the edge of Melbourne C.B.D. So much classier looking than the sporty looking ones. :)

  5. I recently bought a mountain bike with my husband...but the seat is KILLING me. We changed it out and it still bothers me. Guess i need more cushion on my behind...anyway, i think im going to exchange the mountain bike for a Cruiser instead...i sat one one and it seemed alot more comfy!!

  6. What an amazing discovery! I have been on the hunt for one I can ride around Sydney and these are great- I love the duck egg blue- but wishing they had plain cream! I have added to my wish list and am going to pray to the powers that be that one day it too will be mine. :) Thanks again!

  7. Now I want to go ride my bike =P if only it weren't so hot right now!

I agree w/Jen, it's all about the seat. I have a so-so one, but the comfiest one I've ever experienced was a giant platter-sized thing w/huge springs, lol. It was as ridiculously comfy as it was ugly! (still wishing I could find one though...hee!)

  8. I didn't think of that Jen. I won't be able to test the seat before purchasing. I could always strap a cushion to my behind if it is uncomfortable.. okay, maybe not.

  9. I've got bicycles on the brain too! Because I live in Los Angeles it would definitely be scary riding bikes around but lovely because there is so much darn traffic. If I rode a bike to the beach I would probably get there faster than driving by car!

I'm at a difficult position though, because I'm a cruiser type person. I like the idea of having gears and I know they make hybrids that look like vintage bikes or cruisers but have the ability to switch gears a bit, but I would be shunned by my family if I got anything other than a mountain bike. I don't understand it because I have absolutely no desire to go mountain biking, so why would I need a bike for this? They just don't understand...I think I'll be looking on Craigslist for a cool old bike very soon.

  10. YES, the seat is sooo important when considering a bike. I like to go riding a long time and an uncomfortable seat sucks to sit on. I have to stop every few blacks.
