Planning a party for a 1 year old

I cannot believe my little boy will be turning 1 soon. Wow. We are celebrating by throwing a party for him - circus style. No surprise there considering all the circus themed posts over the last year.

The invitations have been sent out. Party is not for a few weeks. The ideas for the invitations are a combination of these circus party invitations by Caroline Drake of the blog Armelle and this wedding invitation found here. I swapped the invitation fonts for circus style fonts and wrote a little story about my son's first year of life.

I'm pretty sure there are spelling or grammatical errors in the invitation wording so please don't look too closely.

Along with the invitation, each guest also received an 'admission ticket' similar to Caroline's party invitations. I was a little worried I would insert the incorrect amount of tickets into each envelope so I enlisted my husband to help me count and re-count the number of tickets per family. Imagine a family of 4 receiving 3 tickets!

So tell me, have you found any ideas in the big wide blog world that have inspired you to try them out too? Feel free to share in the comments below.

See you next week! I'm off to plan activities for the party.

  1. It looks gorgeous Viv - I have a favourites folder of links to blogs and online shops that are full of gorgeous party ideas (still waiting for the baby to have the birthday parties for however).
I love the circus theme - this website has some good real party photos if you haven't seen it/still want some inspiration: http://lifeoftees.wordpress.com/tag/circus-carnival/

Something that I'll be doing this year that I saw online: bamboo cutlery stamped with a little message (Happy Xmas '09) for our Christmas lunch!!!

  4. Kirrily - thank you for the link! I'm in need of as much circus theme inspiration as I can get although if I could plan a party that comes together nearly as good as Caroline's I would be happy. In the end I will probably be the only one that notices the details but I still enjoy the planning.

    lanne - thank you! xx

  6. Viv-
We did a circus themed birthday party for our girl when she turned one last April! It was great. A cotton candy machine is cheap to rent and really ads to the atmosphere. Face painting is a fun activity for the older toddlers and the best part is the cake! I'm going to post some how to's on my site soon, here are some pictures of it and links to where i bought everything (for cheap): http://prudentbaby.blogspot.com

  12. My goodness Viv, as if I didn't just open real living to see your smiling face staring back at me from your front door. I love it! I would be shouting it from the roof tops if I were you! You look great, I love your house exterior colour. Oh, and I saw your butterfly tree on kenziepoo.blogspot.com as well.

  15. Thank you lovelies for all your kind comments and links to more circus love.

Faith, I'm tempted to make a circus tent cake. Surely it can't be too hard? Okay it is hard. I think I'll buy one instead.
