Along with many others we own an Expedit bookcase. The plan was for my husband and I to grow our teeny tiny book collection together and fill the bookcase over time. These days we barely have time to dress ourselves in the morning let along read books so the collection is still teeny tiny. Instead, we use the bookcase to dump the contents of our pockets and store blankets and cushions which is why we have all those boxes.
The other day I tried fancying it up with fabric and adding a few display pieces and photos to fill it up but it is too styled for my liking. I much prefer my dream of growing our book collection one day and adding to it our son's favourite books (the ones that survive being torn apart that is). I wouldn't style it or arrange the books by colour - just a nice random collection of well worn and much loved books.
That looks great, and so very organized! I too love books, and would love to fill that large bookcase with many good reads!

ReplyDeleteAhem to color coordinating books. I did a wall size shelf in a rainbow fashion after being very sick and watching too much Martha, and for a few months, everyone made fun of me. Now its coming out about how much they love it! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on styling the bookcase, it looks great! But I also agree with the idea of just putting well worn and loved books randomly in there. There is something much more personal about filling it all with books you love. I wish I had the space for a bookcase like that! Oh the possibilities...
ReplyDeleteAm loving different ways to display much treasured books at the moment - I did a post on it on my blog last week. Isn't it funny how many of us have an expedit. I read somewhere that 38% of Melbourne homes have a billy bookcase - classic.
